Bar hopping Malaysia

Monday, August 29th, 2005

For a Muslim dominant country , night life is readily
available here. Miri only about 2 hours drive from the Capital of Brunei. You
can see a lot of Brunei cars here starting Friday night. Yup government’s offices only work until Thursday.
Lucky Huh.

One thinks about my work, sometimes there is that thin line
of work and play. I get to go to all the bars and place it all on my expense
account. We call it market research.

San Miguel not present here. I tried a couple of the beers available.

Beck’s is a lager a stiff drink then SMB Pale Pilsen too
bitter for my taste.

Good old Guinness but its seems the canned version is a far
cry from the Draft Guinness I had before.

Then there is Tiger when I took a sip
WOW is a lot smoother
and crisp then SMB Light. I amaze on how good it is much better then any of
beers we have in the Philippines. Beers here are bit pricier but selection is wider then in Manila.
Bar chow is a less
selection maybe because considering pork is not readily available sorry no sisig.

I was with my Friends, We were of different cultural   background
(British, Indian, Chinese and me) yet we form the brotherhood of the beer.104_0387

After 8 mugs of beer
and 2 screwdrivers after hopping 5 bars in 8 hours.
nightlife winds up here
about 2 am. Much earlier then in Manila.

I roll in my bed watching the nightlife thru my condo
window. I fall sleep.

I have a hard job. HICK

Canada Hill

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

Having lived in Canada. Its normal for me to  get curious about a place they call Canada hill here.

After a drive of
10 minutes up a winding road uphill with our car for the day. A Jaguar XJS
pounced up the hill in no time at all.

Its where Oil well no. 1 in which the city was developed was
drilled and until the 1970’s actually had oil. .It was the very 1st
oil well they had in the city. in which they found out that they have a large
reserve of oil (no wonder they have low petrol prices here). It started the
boom which made this town to the Resort City of Malaysia.

Now they have thousands of oil wells.

It’s a great view you can see the cityscape.

I am staying at a condo on the 3rd floor building at
downtown Miri. I have the basic things I need a TV with Astro Satellite , hot
showers  and aircon. Others  I can  live
without for the moment my Treo 650  takes
care of my internet and email  needs and
the wide selection of food stands around the area for my food .

The Bar and restaurant which I am setting up  which is composed
of 2 floors is just at the ground floor
of the building  I am staying  so transportation  is not a problem . Petrol prices here is only P19
pesos a liter here compared to P33 pesos back in Manila.

I plan to get a nice car here. But they tell me to buy in Brunei and just drive it here (about 2 hours worth)
where cars are only half the price compared here in Malaysia.

I just sit on lounge chair (the huge one on the left) during Sunday afternoons and pass
the day away after a night of bar hopping. That’s another post.

Pick me upper-Malaysia

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

I usually wake up about 8am  take a quick shower slap some clothes and drag myself to the nearby open food stall. The breezy air coming from the shore gives me my bearings.

The sound of morning chatter in Chinese , Indian , Bhasa Malaysia and English gives you an idea of the mix of food available.

I order my usual  Roti Selur and some local coffee.

Roti is a Indian in orgin is a pancake with an egg inside of it served with curry sauce on the side.
local coffee i have is strong local beans with a layer of condense milk on the bottom which you need to stir. It gives a sweet creamy coffee.

For about 3 RM (40-42 pesos) this gets me up before I headed to work.
