Old and the new

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

Sure I keep an online blog and a PDA to bring around but I still tend to write things down on a pen and paper. Even when brainstorming or being stump on a problem ,The pen and paper gets me moving.

I scribble, draw, and even flowchart on the paper then simply transfer to my laptop for a more formal look.
Anyone who has worked with me knows when God was showering good penmanship I was off on the other side where he showered the talent for useless trivia.
So with my cryptic handwriting, which my mom swears until now that, I keep on practice writing heheh.

I have gotten a hold of a moleskin notebook. Aficionados swear by it say it’s the same notebook Van Gogh, Chatwin, Hemingway, Matisse and Céline wrote on. Trust me my penmanship still remains unreadable even if I am writing on the master’s notebook.

It feels and looks better then your average notebook. The leather cover is good to touch quite pricey for about $10 USD considering my mom bought me 1 pesos notebooks in Divisoria. Its acid free paper supposed to keep my scribbles intact for generation to come. For reason I swear I don’t know why they would want to read it. Maybe my grandchildren would try to decipher the ramblings of their grandpapa giving them clues to the life he lived in which the fruits they enjoyed and what made him long after the battery of my Treo 650 died out.

Maybe its age or maybe it’s trying to chase fleeting youth but
I always believe I need to motivate myself by putting a goal and sticking to a
deadline.

So beginning tomorrow I will be training myself to join the
2008 Canadian Death race (http://www.canadiandeathrace.com/v2/MainPage.html
) in the solo division. It will push me to my limits physically and mentally. I bet
I’ll be asking myself why the hell I even joined the race when I am trying to
get my 2nd , 3rd …..101st wind. Think about it we never
see what we really have if we don’t push ourselves.  Maybe because it was never race between with other
racers just me racing myself. Hopefully I’ll be able to be able to post that I survive
the race but see life bigger that is my resolution.

Sand
It was a sunny day in New York. Having sometime to spare. An idea crossed my mind  since I am in New York why not try some of the locals eats .  No not the pricey  Nobu restaurant  , AOC Bedford or a Peter Luger Steak house (this one I had to try another time). I simply wanted a sandwich. So I headed to Lower East side Manhattan using the subway.
I came in about late afternoon the crowd was not bad sometimes lines form for a 30 minute wait just to get in. I was issued my ticket (Don’t lose your ticket) before heading the ordering counter. The place was old since 1888 but it was clean and still has that spark in the air. So I lined up at the self service counter. I order the classic corned beef on rye. Their corned beef is supposed to have been cured for a month before serving.
They cut a small portion for you to taste while they go about making your order. When I tasted my sample. The beef was tender and full of flavor. It was as of now the best corned beef I ever tasted. I eagerly awaited my sandwich.

My Sandwich was humongous about 5 to 6 inches thick along with it came a small plate of home made pickles and Dr. Brown’s Cherry Soda.  The sandwich was good enough for 2 people luckily I can eat for 2 people hahahahahah.

Meg
I saw the pictures of famous people who ate at Katz from Harry Houdini to Meg Ryan. To those movie buffs yes this is where they filmed the movie “When Harry met Sally’. The spot where Meg Ryan faked an orgasm I sat beside it. Sorry no Meg Ryan that day.

The sandwich was a lot but it simply so good you really want to finish it with the Cherry soda washing it down. But Alas I simply had to take home half of it. Burp.

Anyways if you have the chance to be in New York I suggest you drop by Katz’s Deli trust me it’s worth the trip.

Mornings

I love that morning where everything seemed so right. The lazy fog the wafts down the valleys while the sun creeps out of the horizon. The weather brings in a nice cool breeze, which blows from the east. I stare out my windows and see life slowly stirring buses starting to do its morning rounds. Joggers coming off from their early morning runs. Morning dews drop lazily from the leaves they formed. Some grad students walking to classes.

Nice cup of freshly brewed coffee in hand . I felt like time slowed for a while.
It’s the small things in life you take forgranted sometimes. Smell the morning air feels the air against your skin, the beauty that you can see.

I thank God for giving me the opportunity to start a new day in life and appreciate things he has put in this earth.
