Crabby Day
I like eating in places that one does not exactly find on the tourist maps.
Those good eats where the local people come to enjoy great food for a great price.
One such place is called Thuy Restaurant 94.
I love my seafood so when I heard about the restaurant that has been famous for over 20 years in Saigon for soft shell crabs I really had to try .
The
place are just like a hole in the wall ,literally just a small space
with Spartan décor and dining utensils. Unless you know what you are
looking for you might just drive pass by it.
However,
one thing that is unmistakable is the freshness of the seafood. When
you arrive you will immediately see the live soft-shelled crabs lined
up in front of the restaurant.
So
I order a selection of steamed crab claws, grilled prawns and their
specialty deep fried soft-shelled crab with sweet chill sauce.
The
service was quick, you can see them going to the pile you saw when you
came in and cooked them all in plain eyesight with their simple show
case kitchen counter.
The soft-shelled crab was delicious. The difference between the regular crab and the soft-shelled one is that this one you can eat it all no need to peel and scoop out the sweet crabmeat.
I literally ate the shell, the body and legs. Hmmmm dip in sweet chill sauce to complete it.
The Shrimp freshness was betrayed by sweetness and firmness of meat that you dip in a mix of pepper, salt and lime juice.
Likewise, with the crab claws, which came to my table, peeled and ready to eat.
It was great meal with rice, salad and drink and it was only $ 18 usd the quantity was good enough for more then 1 person.
It was a great discovery, which I plan to share with my friends.
